The Great British Chefs Restaurants and Recipes

The Restaurant Show 2011 first chef on the centre stage was Sat Bains. I had a chance to listen to part of his presentation which sounded very interesting. Sat Bains is the Michelin-starred restaurant with rooms in Nottingham. His philosophy of taste, texture and temperature ensures that the restaurant is consistently voted in the UK's top ten. But yet to be in world's top 100 in the Restaurant magazine list.

In September 2006 it was named Restaurant of the Year for England by the AA as published in their 2007 Restaurant Guide. He also appeared as one of the competitors on the 2007 Great British Menu where fourteen of the nation's top chefs battled it out to win the chance to cook at a four-course banquet hosted by the British ambassador to France. He won the Midlands and the East heat beating the previous year's winner, Galton Blackiston from Norfolk. In the final round, Sat Bains' starter of egg, ham and peas was adjudged the best amongst the seven finalists with three perfect 10 scores from the three judges.

In the 2012 Michelin guide to Great Britain and Ireland, after being promoted to two-star-status by the famous restaurant guide. So The Restaurant finally reached its second star after years of the industry calling on Michelin to recognise the Nottingham restaurant.
Sat Bains was born in Normanton, Derbyshire, into a Sikh family from the Punjab region, which straddles India and Pakistan. He was catapulted into the limelight while working at the Ashbourne Gallery in Derby when he won the 1999 Roux Scholarship. He won his first Michelin star in 2003 at his eponymous restaurant at the Hotel des Clos, a small property in Lenton, on the outskirts of Nottingham. However the hotel was sold the following year.
Undaunted by the sale, Bains bought a 15-year lease on the restaurant and planned to reopen as a separate business. However, in the spring of 2005, the chance to buy a 15-year lease on the hotel also arose and Bains and his wife Amanda jumped at it. It became known as Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms.
